One might not expect the following lyric on an album intended to raise awareness about mountaintop removal in Kentucky coal-mining: “This is only a song / It can’t change the world.”
It would seem to defy the whole point of “Dear Companion,” a collaboration between singer-songwriters Daniel Martin Moore
and Ben Sollee. Yet it doesn’t, because Moore and Sollee humbly acknowledge the limited impact they can have.
But they know that if they can get the ball rolling, the practice of mountaintop removal soon will be illuminated for more people. (MORE)
