“I write a lot of songs about moving and transportation,” Dukes said. “It comes up over and over again, although I don’t know why that is. If you pay attention to American folk and pop music, there are a ton of songs about people going places.” Sometimes Dukes writes about local themes. “Old West Broad” is about the street that is now called Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. “I read an article about what West Broad was like before they put in the overpass, how it was a busy, vital street,” he said.
