RIYL: Whiskeytown, Tom Petty
The Breedings are a brother and sister duo based out of Nashville, TN – home of their debut album, Laughing at Luck. Originally hailing from Lexington, KY, the duo sings original material penned by singer/songwriter Willie Breeding, who released two solo albums (“Grey Skies” in 2007, “Cheap Vodka Rain” in 2009) while living in Brooklyn, NY. Big sister Erin, who was working as an accountant in Boston and singing occasional back-up for her brother, stepped up in 2008 to become the lead singer. Brought together in the studio by their love of ‘70s country music, the duo moved south to finish recording their debut album. What resulted was a surprisingly rock ’n’ roll sound. Erin has a voice reminiscent of early Stevie Nicks, which she masterfully wraps around her brother’s lyrics and melody. Willie’s harmonies and swinging guitar complete the sound. The Breedings bring life and energy to the stage with their fresh, authentic sound. The pair has been touring throughout the east coast during 2011 in support of their new album. Listeners will be immediately struck by their hard-hitting sound, bringing to mind Fleetwood Mac, Linda Ronstadt and a touch of Tom Petty.
